Medicine

I was born in Colombia and received my medical training at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. Thus, I’m fully bilingual and have worked with a wide range of patient populations. Prior to my residency training at Columbia University in NYC, I worked in different clinical trials at the Anxiety Disorders group at Columbia focusing on psychotherapeutic approaches. I focused my research in the epidemiology of addictions and the association of violence and mental health. Besides my experience through residency in terms of pharmacological treatment, I received additional training in cognitive behavioral therapy, problem solving psychotherapy and motivational interviewing. My long-term goal is to pursue a career that integrates clinical work and research, two areas that I view as tightly intertwined and mutually enriching. I am particularly interested in working with vulnerable populations affected by violence, substance use disorders, and developing interventions to improve their outcome.
